Folk Life Program Series Program 1: Cannin', Picklin', and Fermentation
Alex and Zo owners of Fawns Head Grove will teach the rich history of canning, pickling, and fermentation in this free demonstration.
In this class, we will field questions and cover the basics of canning at home. Expect to go home with confidence to can your own tomato sauce, jams, or pickles. We will discuss fermentation at length while making a demo batch of lacto-fermented vegetables.
Highlights: Basics of canning, basics of low-tech fermentation, and a lecture on fear and embracing sustainable food preservation.
All participants will take home a recipe card and their very own pickling spices.
